Both release checks and production checks matter.
Checkly supports API checks and Playwright browser checks defined in code, tested in CI, and deployed for scheduled monitoring. It is not limited to uptime pings. See the Checkly CLI overview for its testing and deployment workflow.
Molar Guard connects configured Molar scenarios to release checks and monitoring. Its fit depends on the browser task, test accounts, and service behavior you want to exercise.
Compare the environment behind the check.
| Decision | Checkly | Molar Guard |
|---|---|---|
| Test definition | API and browser checks managed through its tools and code. | Configured Molar scenarios for the selected application tasks. |
| Release workflow | Use the CLI in CI/CD to test and deploy checks. | Run scenarios in CI and configure the repository check for your setup. |
| Connected services | Prepare the accounts, endpoints, and fixtures required by your checks. | Use supported Clones when the test requires isolated service state. |
Try the failure you need to catch.
For a paid signup, test a delayed payment callback: the confirmation page appears, but account access has not arrived yet. Decide which assertion should fail, where the test should run, and which team receives the result.
Inspect the browser steps and service state available in each setup. Also check how credentials, failed runs, and retries are handled. A green request status alone does not establish that the customer received access.
Keep monitoring that already works.
Evaluate Guard where you need Molar scenarios or supported Clones alongside your release process. Guard is in beta: test selection works on pull requests through the GitHub App and is still being tuned, and Mender is in preview.
