Start with the recording your test produces.
Playwright Trace Viewer is designed to inspect Playwright traces. Molar Trace is the inspection workspace for captured Molar runs. Choose the viewer that exposes the information available from your test, rather than assuming that every run includes every type of recording.
What you can inspect.
| Question | Playwright Trace Viewer | Molar Trace |
|---|---|---|
| What did the browser do? | Inspect actions, page snapshots, and captured screenshots. | Follow the captured steps and screenshots of a Molar run. |
| What failed? | Inspect errors, source, network activity, and console messages. | Review the failed check and available request details alongside the browser steps. |
| How do I open it? | Open a local trace or a remotely hosted trace URL. | Open the result or trace available for the Molar run. |
Playwright supports both local and browser-based viewing, including remote trace URLs. Its Trace Viewer documentation explains recording options and sharing requirements.
Investigate one missing invitation.
Look for the click that sent the invitation, the request that followed, and the next screen. If the test also captures email or membership state, inspect it before concluding that the invitation worked.
A screenshot can show that the app displayed “Invitation sent.” It cannot, on its own, show that an email arrived or that a member received access. Those need their own checks and captured results.
Review a run before changing your tools.
Use Playwright Trace Viewer for your existing Playwright recordings. Explore Molar Trace if you are evaluating Molar browser tasks or service checks. The recorded browser example shows the steps and result available from one completed run.
When to choose which
Keep Playwright Trace Viewer for debugging your own test runs on your machine. Use Molar Trace when you want a hosted run’s video, network log and steps in one place your team and coding agents can open, or to compare a passing run with a failing one. Molar is in beta.
